Coaching

Existing bowler

If you have bowled before and wish to join the Club, you will be asked to join one of our coaches for a short practice session to ensure you are delivering the bowl safely for yourself and the green.  On successful completion, you will be eligible to become a member and will have full access to our facilities.  Our coaches are also available throughout the season for the development of more advanced skills, if you wish just ask one of the coaches what you would like to practice.

For new bowlers
For those of you taking up bowls as a new sport we offer a free four session induction programme led by one of our coaches.  This course will be held at a time to suit new bowlers, and will be very relaxed and designed to give you a full introduction to the sport. You will be given advice on how to choose the right size of bowl, how to grip and deliver the bowl, the different positions within a bowls team, and the etiquette of the sport.  Bowls will be provided during initial coaching.  At the end of the programme our coaches will decide whether your ability is now at a level where you are ready to join the club or whether you may require further coaching for your own safety.

If you are ready to join, you will be asked to complete an application form.  Whilst we can provide the use of bowls initially, and it is advisable to try different bowls, we would ask that eventually you purchase your own bowls.  This will give you confidence and pride and a sense of achievement that you belong.

Casual rollups
Casual roll ups are held on Wednesday mornings and Friday evening.  For those new to the sport it’s a great way of learning the game, meeting other members, it gives you the opportunity to practice different techniques and have the ability of utilising other experienced bowlers knowledge.  There’s lots of little things you can do to help you along the way.

Further guidance
All new members are then provided with a full introduction to the Club.  A coach or an experienced member will highlight how you can get involved in all aspects of the Club, such as club afternoons/evenings, friendly and competitive matches and social events. If you wish you can be linked with a mentor (a bowling buddy), who will provide you with guidance and encouragement during your early weeks as a member, or you can practice on your own, your choice.  Our intention is to make you feel welcome and to get you involved in the Club.
